Dental Crowns North Palm Beach Residents Prefer

August 14, 2015

Woman relaxes as she receives the dental crowns north palm beach residents trustImagine taking a bite of your favorite crunchy or chewy food. Everything seems fine, but then, a sharp pain shoots through your mouth. You find yourself chewing on a piece of your own tooth. Dental cracking and breaking occurs relatively frequently, and you’d be surprised how many patients choose not to restore these problems right away. However, over time these cracked and broken teeth become susceptible to tooth decay and root canal infections as bacteria is able to directly affect the inner layers of your tooth. In the past, restoring a broken tooth was considered too timely and ineffective, so patients would often have the tooth pulled. At Juno Beach Smiles, we practice conservative dentistry which means we always attempt to preserve natural tooth structure, but we are also a cosmetic dentist which means we want your smile to look as good as it feels after restoration. That’s why for severely cracked and broken teeth or teeth that have undergone root canal therapy, we recommend porcelain or metal supported porcelain dental crowns. If you have a tooth in need of repair, call Juno Beach Smiles to find out more about how dental crowns can give you back your beautiful smile.

Porcelain Veneers in Jupiter, FL

July 9, 2015

92589293Consider your smile. Are you happy to share your smile with the people you see every day, or are you someone who habitually raises a hand to your mouth in order to cover your smile? If your smile is in hiding, then maybe you should consider permanently hiding your smile. With porcelain veneers, Dr. Duane Keuning and Dr. Greg Riley at Juno Beach Smiles help people from surrounding areas like Jupiter, FL, conceal their old smiles and reveal new and beautiful smiles instead.

Porcelain veneers—also called dental veneers or just veneers—are perfect for restoring a smile that is tainted by a number of cosmetic imperfections, including:

  • Teeth that are chipped
  • Slightly broken or fractured teeth
  • Teeth that are misshaped
  • Moderately crooked teeth
  • Teeth that have gaps in between them

Instead of taking the time and dealing with the expense of several cosmetic and restorative procedures that would be necessary to refurbish a smile with these flaws, you can have a fantastic smile with porcelain veneers in just two appointment.

What are Veneers?

In Jupiter, dental veneers are extremely thin layers of dental porcelain that are cemented to the front side of your teeth to create a perfect smile. Because they are made of porcelain, which is a translucent ceramic material, veneers reflect light similarly to natural enamel. Furthermore, they can be sized, shaped and colored to conform to your mouth and your special facial features.

What is the Process for Veneers in Jupiter?

First, Dr. Keuning or Dr. Riley will need to make sure there are no oral health concerns that need to be addressed before beginning the process of applying porcelain veneers. Then, once we’re certain that you’re a good candidate, you’ll come in for a consultation. At this meeting, you’ll tell us about the kind of smile you want and we’ll take x-rays, impressions and photos of your teeth. Don’t forget to mention the characteristics that you want your smile to have—you can even bring pictures of celebrities who have smiles you like.

Then, one of the Juno Beach Smiles dentists will prepare your teeth for veneers by removing a minimal amount of enamel. Doing so allows for a stronger bond between the veneers and your teeth and also ensures they will lie flush with your other teeth. Our trustworthy cosmetic dental lab will then fabricate your permanent veneers. In the meantime, we’ll place temporary veneers to safeguard your teeth and help you get used to the feel of veneers.

When your permanent veneers arrive, you’ll return to Juno Beach Smiles where we will fit and cement them to the teeth in your smile zone. At the end of the appointment, you’ll have a smile that you’ll never want to hide again!

How Chewing a Piece of Gum Can Help Your Smile

March 14, 2014

gumIf you spend most of your day behind your desk or out and about, you may not be able to brush after every meal. However, there is still something you can do to help your smile. A very simple act can help you clean your teeth and neutralize the acid in your mouth—chewing sugarless gum.

Chewing a piece of gum after meals can help your smile in two ways. First, chewing gum can help you clean leftover pieces of food from between your teeth. When these pieces are left where they are, they can promote the growth of bacteria, which can turn into plaque and calculus. Bacteria, plaque, and calculus can lead to common oral health problems like gum disease and tooth decay. Gum disease will help you remove what’s leftover and help protect teeth.

Chewing a piece of gum will also neutralize the acid in your mouth. Foods that are high in sugar or starch can cause an acidic reaction in the mouth, promoting the growth of bacteria. Gum that’s sweetened with xylitol can offer even more help.

Of course, chewing a piece of gum should not replace regular brushing and flossing or checkups with Dr. Keuning and Dr. Riley at Juno Beach Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry. Contact us to schedule an appointment. We offer great care to patients from Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, Jupiter and beyond.

Support Your Smile with Green Tea

February 27, 2014

Green TeaWhat’s the drink most people reach for when they need caffeine? Often, it’s coffee, which works incredibly well but can also give you bad breath and leave stains on your teeth. Thankfully, coffee isn’t your only option for caffeine in the morning. Green tea can give you the same boost while also improving your oral and overall health and reducing your number of dental visits.

People have been drinking green tea for centuries because of its many health benefits. Among the many things green tea can do, it can improve heart health, regulate body temperature, promote digestion, and improve cognitive abilities.

Despite all this, when we drink tea here in America, most people reach for black tea. The problem with black tea, though, is that is has far fewer antioxidants and more caffeine than green tea does. The leaves of green tea, however, are unfermented. Because of this, they have a higher concentration of polyphenol and catechin, which are important antioxidants that can improve cholesterol levels and help with cancer diabetes, liver disease, and more.

But what can green tea do for your smile? Research has shown it can do a number of things. Among them, it can:

  • Reduce the inflammation of gum disease
  • Prevent oral cancer
  • Reduce plaque
  • Repel odor-causing bacteria

Do you drink more than one cup of coffee each day? Why not switch to green tea and see how it changes your life.

Do you have questions about enjoying oral health, or do you need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Keuning or Dr. Riley? Our office serves patients from Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, Jupiter and beyond.

Convenient Teeth Whitening at Home

January 27, 2014

teeth whiteningIn our last post, we invited you to schedule your first 2014 appointment so we can get started on your smile transformation. Today we’d like to focus on just one of the ways we can transform your smile. It’s a popular service known as teeth whitening. With teeth whitening, patients can overcome stains to enjoy a whiter, more dazzling smile and better self-confidence. Andto make the process convenient for our busiest patients, Dr. Keuning and Dr. Riley offer take-home whitening.

Using custom-made whitening trays and a supply of professional whitening gel, you can easily whiten your teeth at home in your spare time.  The process takes between one and two weeks, with a single treatment lasting for 30 minutes each day. During that time, you can take care of some simple household chores, check your email, or relax with a book.

Take-home whitening is often a great service for patients sensitive to in-office whitening. However, if you still experience sensitivity with take-home whitening, simply follow-up your treatment by lining your trays with Sensodyne, or similar toothpaste, and wear them an additional 30 minutes.

Even the most careful patient can end up with embarrassing tooth stains because of the foods and drinks we consume every day. Let Dr. Keuning and Dr. Riley help you overcome your stains with teeth whitening.

Call us today with your questions and to set up a consultation appointment. We’re creating beautiful smiles for patients from Juno Beach, Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, North Palm Beach, and beyond.

The Health Benefits of Invisalign

March 29, 2013

InvisalignIn our last post, we talked about some of the most convenient benefits of straightening your smile with Invisalign, the first being that Invisalign is clear and the second being that Invisalign is removable. But the second benefit isn’t just about convenience; it also benefits your oral health.

With traditional braces, food can become trapped around the brackets and wires that move teeth into their ideal alignment. If these bits of food aren’t cleaned away through brushing and flossing, they can make patients more vulnerable to common oral health conditions, like tooth decay and gum disease. What’s more, some foods can actually damage braces, requiring extra office visits.

With Invisalign, our Juno Beach patients don’t have to worry about either of these. Because Invisalign uses removable aligners, you can enjoy the same foods you always have. You don’t have to worry about hurting your braces, because you take them out for meals. Plus, because you’ll also take your aligners out for brushing and flossing, you can clean your smile as thoroughly as you would without braces.

Both of these benefits translate into a potentially healthier treatment time. Because you’re not limited in what you can eat, you can enjoy a balanced, nutritious diet that includes healthy but hard-to-eat foods. You can also take better care of your smile with regular at-home care and professional cleanings.

Do you want to know if Invisalign is right for you? Call Juno Beach Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry. Drs. Duane Keuning and Greg Riley are happy to provide care to patients from Juno Beach, North Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Tequesta, and beyond.
